The relationship between media and democracy is an important topic in contemporary Lavtia and crucial for democracy. Similarly, media literacy is also a core element of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The International community in Latvia, including the German Embassy, supports media in Latvia, in particular with regard to the development of media literacy, critical thinking and participation in democratic processes.

During our SprachCafe on 23.02.2018, fundamental changes in the media landscape will be discussed: how ‘old’ media interacts with ‘new’ media – and to which degree do social media platforms threaten traditional perceptions of media. We will also look into some basics of media literacy and critical thinking as pre-requsites for responisble ‘media consumption’.

Everyone interested in Germany – especially DAAD Alumni and other former students and researchers at a Germany university – is invited! The SprachCafé takes place on 23rd February at NicePlace Telpa. Kr. Barona street 21a!

Moderator of the event: Joeran Steinhauer
