Project „Volunteering: way for the future”. Final report

From 21th to 30th November 2015 in Daugavpils was held the international training course „ Volunteering: way for the future” organized with financial support of „Erasmus+” programme. In training participated 16 youth workers, youth mentors and leaders from Latvia (society ERFOLG), Georgia (Georgian Youth for Europe), Poland (Fundacja Sempre a Frente) and Portugal (organization ProAtlântico – Associação Juvenil). Project activities were led by Stanislavs Babins, who has wide experience in the organization and managing of international projects.
The aim of the project was to popularize the movement of volunteering in European countries, to improve the quality of voluntary service und to raise the capacity of youth workers.
During the project participants explored volunteer work from different points of view – the mentor (in the project were the participants who have worked or are currently working as mentors), volunteer (for the project participants was organized meeting with the foreign volunteers from Austria, Armenia and Spain) and from view of local government worker (the participants had meetings with representatives of the Daugavpils city council and the youth department– Pēteris Dzalbe and Gunita Vanaga, who shared their experiences and talked about how the work with volunteers are built in Daugavpils). Also during the training the main volunteering aspects participants discussed with the head of projects of the Mark Rothko art center -Victoria Kozlowska and the representative of public organizations Olga Jesse (the head of the society ERFOLG).
Furthermore, within the project were organized intercultural evening, during which the participants got acquainted with the culture and traditions of each other, and different creative activities, games, excursions, presentations, discussions on the topic of volunteerism. All project activities were based on non-formal education methods.
As a result, the project contributed to the development of competences of participants, they gain new knowledge and skills, learned about new methods of working with volunteers that they can use later in their work. It was also established partnership relations between Latvia, Georgia, Portugal and Poland.
On the basis of the training course was created brochure – a guide to working with volunteers, which includes a number of issues considered during the project, information on the methods and experience of partner organizations, as well as expert advice on the organization of volunteer work. For all interested the booklet is available in the society “Erfolg”, Daugavpils.
